House League Overview

House League

Registration for Spring House League is open! Go to our Available Programs page for details and to register.

Our House League program is specifically designed for instruction and inclusion. The program accepts Kindergarten through 8th grade girls regardless of their experience, ability, or residency. Having fun while participating in low-pressure fast-pitch softball instruction is the priority of the program.

This program is made up of four different divisions based on the school grade of the players:
  • Sprites: K & 1st graders (coach pitch with tee backup, 10" soft ball, 10 players per team)
  • Ponytail: 2nd & 3rd graders (player pitch with coach backup, 11" soft ball, 12-13 players per team)
  • Minors: 4th & 5th graders (all player pitch, 11" hard ball, 12-13 players per team)
  • Majors: 6th, 7th, and 8th graders (all player pitch, 12" standard ball, 11-13 players per team)
Our Spring House League season starts in early April, and ends around the time Northbrook schools let out for summer. The season typically includes 8 to 10 regular season games per team, followed by a single-elimination playoff and 'World Series' for each division (all teams get at least one playoff game). There is also an All Star Game as part of our annual Spring Fling event. All teams hold one practice per week. (For Sprites, the schedule is just 1 game and 1 practice per week, and they do not have a post-season)

Our Fall Ball season runs from late August through late October, with one game and one practice per week. We field teams into a conference including other communities; games are played in Northbrook, Deerfield, and Glencoe. Fall Ball age divisions are 3rd-5th and 6th-8th.

We also run skills clinics in March, indoors, before the season begins, and a House League Plus clinics program in June and July outdoors.

Registration fees vary by season. NGSA also has a fee assistance program, as we never want financial hardship to prevent a girl from experiencing the sport. If you require that support, you can fill out this form to start the process.

If you haven't yet participated in an NGSA program but would like to be informed as registration opens for all our upcoming leagues and clinics, put your email address in the Interest List at the top of the home page.

See below for an FAQ, our league rules, and code of conduct. If you have additional questions, email the House League Director(s).
